People
as powerful as the Tartesso, Turdetanian, Roman or Islamic
have settled in this fertile and strategic enclave since
ancient times . Its rich heritage is the best clue to
the past, as Osuna preserves evidence as valuable as their
Iberian reliefs or their monumental churches, convents
and palaces of the Renaissance and Baroque eras.

From
the VII century to C. there are remnants in osuna of the
formentioned cultures. There are reliefs of Osuna and Iberian
works of art.
In
Roman times appears associations with the camp of Pompey
and is the last redoubt that resisted Cesar. After the conquest,
it was given the status of Roman colony.
From
the Roman town there remains the ruins of the Roman Theater,
water tanks and, above all, the Necropolis hipogea. Dug
into the rock, this temporary construction runs an arc stretching
from the BC to A.D.

Later,
passing through the vicissitudes of the classical Arab
conquest and the Spanish conquest by Ferdinand III, the
Holy. Alfonso X the Wise, gave as instructs the Order
of Calatrava. Later, in 1464, Pedro Giron, master of the
said Order, is done through barter with Osuna, giving
change and Bélmez Fuenteovejuna, achieving for
the Counts of Ureña, a vast territorial dominion
of Andalusia with Osuna as its capital and head of administration
and culture. In 1562, Count V of Ureña I received
the title of Duke of Osuna.

The
ducal patronage of the house led the city to its highest
levels, converting Osuna into the capital of Tellez Giron
of Andalusia , who were responsible for the current layout,
where the mix of convents and churches with magnificent
stately homes and manor, everything overlooked by the promontory
where the Colegiata, theUniversity
and the remains of the ducal fortaleza earned in 1967 being
declared historic and artistic

Even
with the attractivness of Osuna, visitors should not stay
only consentrate on the art. Osuna has a diverse range of
leisure: Hunting, with various municipal and private boxes.
The world of horses, with several riding schools.
Among
our celebrations is highlighted the Easter which has been
declared International Tourist Festival and National Andalucia
Fair held every mid-May.
